The thought that I could give others the resources that were not available to me just sparked that feeling of “wanting” so I just decided to start my club. Like when I started the First Lego League, in 2019, I did not have access to a mentor who could help me understand the concept of the tournament and how I should prepare to be able to participate effectively.

So, our Lego club meet-up will happen once every week for 8-12 weeks. My club was on Monday, and Avyah chose Thursday for him, and they will be 1 hour long. Some activities we organize for the kids include playing games, which will be at the beginning of the class to make the kids awake and feel like they are alive for the class. Then, we will review what we learned from the last class and move on with the schedule. This may include coding with their laptops or learning about robots and maps by bringing are own to school. We then wrap up by quizzing them on what they learned. We sometimes give candies based on the correct answer as well.

During our summer program, which we ran, it was open to kids ages 1st-8th grade, while our after-school program was open to kids ages 1st-5th. We mainly have this because, in Fll, there are divisions for different ages. For example, children ages 4-6(pre-k-1) are in the Discover division. Kids 6-10(2-4)0 go to the explore division, and 9-16(which we participate in) are in the challenge. This is where we could track who's doing what and what they are learning for their division. We have some requirements, like bringing laptops/tablets for coding and taking notes, water bottles and snacks if needed, and, of course, being respectful and attentive to the class and having fun.

Some benefits that participants gain are life skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking. No matter what field you end up choosing when you grow up, these skills will help you.

The first upcoming event for the club is a scrimmage. It will be hosted in June of 2024, in Fremont. The scrimmage will essentially be a mini FLL tournament, in which teams can participate and present their innovation projects as well as their robots. This would not necessarily be like a tournament but more like a leisure fun experience for people to see others work. Another important update for our club is our summer club. Which is going to start in June, it will be an 8-week program for kids ages 8-14. This summer club will be completely free and will be hosted in Fremont. More information is posted on our website.

We had partnerships with schools like Olivera and Patterson to support our lego club and to teach to the kids. They helped us in making this possible and helping kids learn about Fll. The teachers were also helpful in teaching the kids and helping with supervision for the club.

Again, people who are interested in the Lego club can be fully registered through our website, fllcc.org, where they can also join the WhatsApp group to get more updates.
-
Our club rules are being respectful to your peers and teachers, being attentive to the class, and participating in the discussion. You should also bring your supplies like water and a laptop. Follow the club's updates and news and be on time, and have fun as well.

Some resources we provide are, first,
Legos: We usually use them for the first or second class of the semester because it is excellent teamwork and collaboration when they work together in groups and to see what they have come up with.
Robot Kit: This is used for the coding aspect of working with the robot, as well as to tell students about the robot itself, how it works, and how to build it for their FLL.
FLL Map: This is an example of how the SFLL maps are structured and how you will compete in them, and it is excellent for coding.
Snacks are provided as well.
